ABOUT KARINA

Born and raised on the internet between Russia, Czech Republic, and Canada, Karina Abramova is a human-digital product of globalization, classical literature, twentieth-century poetry, beach life, information age, and years of travel.

As a child, she enjoyed spending time outdoors and developing her understanding of plant, animal and human relationships in nature through play and staging DIY interventions with natural objects. Her first paintbrush was a pen, when she wrote her first story at 11, and became a published poet at 16 before a period of modelling and acting in Vancouver, Canada during her university years.

As an adult, she enjoys communicating the future and she has done that professionally as a world class future trends consultant to global brands. Now, as an artist, she hopes to bring the future vision to the present moment by creating climate communications that speak to the heart.

Karina has a 10 year track record of bringing creative groups together through producing art exhibitions (such as the lead exhibit at the Hackney Wicked Festival in 2014), art club gatherings (she founded the Slow Art Day Toronto chapter) and managing artists (supporting performance artist Anna Nazo in her early career). In 2021 she decided to blend all her experiences together and charge the eco-art activism movement and digital eco-art curation.

Karina is currently pursuing an MA Applied Imagination post-graduate degree at Central Saint Martins, one of the world’s best art schools, where she is researching how climate communications can be a vehicle of awareness and material change. She aims to answer the question, “Can a digital object affect physical change?” If she succeeds, she will cement Utility for NFTs and bet that the emerging digital economy could dramatically scale, amplify and enable environmental awareness and regenerative action.

Not just a tech-whiz, Karina is also studying shamanism and ancient indigenous wisdom to balance her futuristic side while developing a deeper relationship and communication with the natural world.

Her dream is to build a global nourishing and nourished community of artists, curators, creators, makers, technologists who share similar ecological goals. She wants to empower environmental education and action groups in critical eco-geographies, while fostering conscious leadership behaviour.

In 2021, she moved to Hampshire, UK to be closer to Nature and to create from a quieter place. There, she enjoys writing, acting, swimming, and running, as well as connecting with the community and the ecology of the New Forest, which was “new” a thousand years ago when William the Conqueror planted it. That’s the kind of Cathedral Thinking that she is inspired by.
